Covid Policy

SPCS 2025-26 COVID/Respiratory Illness Policy

Rehearsal and concert venues are indoors.  It is likely that we will be together during times of high viral spread.  Out of respect and care for our musicians, volunteers and audience, the Board requests that members follow the following guidelines so that orchestra experiences are safe for everyone.

The board continues to monitor the COVID situation and other respiratory illnesses to ensure the safety of SPCS playing members, volunteers, and concert guests.  The Board has decided to continue the SPCS COVID Policy of 2024-5.  This policy is in alignment with the core strategies recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health.  As updated information from credible sources becomes available, the SPCS policy may be amended to adjust to changes in disease spread.

Recommendations to Prevent Spread of Respiratory Illness (e.g. COVID, Flu, RSV, Other Pathogens)

  • Know that you may choose to mask at any time.  (KN95 masks are available at rehearsals.)
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 and flu vaccines as recommended by your healthcare provider.
  • Avoid contact with people who have suspected or confirmed COVID-19 or flu.
  • Follow recommendations for isolation from your healthcare provider if you have suspected or confirmed COVID-19 OR if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19.
  • If you are at high risk of getting very sick, talk with a healthcare provider about additional prevention actions.
  • We also strongly recommend that you have test kits at home so that you can quickly test for COVID.  These are available from a pharmacy and may be covered by health insurance.
  • Practice good handwashing hygiene.
  • SPCS will institute ventilation strategies as needed.

In Case of Illness or Exposure

Stay home if sick, notify section leader.

  • Follow isolation steps as recommended by your healthcare provider to determine when to safely return to rehearsal.
  • If exposed and NO symptoms, please consider testing so that if infected, you can obtain treatment early.  The board suggests that you ATTEND rehearsal and WEAR A HIGH QUALITY MASK
  •  WIND PLAYERS:  ATTEND rehearsal wearing a HIGH QUALITY MASK and mentally follow your part.  Mental rehearsal has been shown to aid your learning and enhance your future performance!

SPCS has high quality KN95 masks available at rehearsals and you are welcome to use one of these.
